Hours

We are looking for people to work the following shift patterns with flexibility.

  • Sunday: 12 hour shifts from 08.00am- 20.00pm 

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for two support workers who live within the Shrewsbury area and can start shifts from the correct time. This individual must be calm, patient, and skilled in non-verbal communication. It would be beneficial if you have experience of supporting individuals who are non-verbal and are able to respond well through body language, facial expressions, and vocal noises. 

  • We are looking for people who have worked in social care previously, ideally with autism experience.
  • You must have current Right to Work in the UK and have 6 Months Experience working in the Health Sector in the UK.

Package Description

We are looking for an experienced Bank Support Worker who is living close to Shrewsbury/Telford or in the surrounding villages to support a young gentleman who has a severe learning disability, autism, and epilepsy in a person-centred approach on a 2:1 basis. 

It is important to provide inclusion when supporting this individual, to ensure they are included in activities and decisions. Therefore, having a Support Worker who have a focus mindset, and a good understanding in their sensory need’s about working in a person-centred approach is essential to allow development in gaining more independences.

The person supported enjoys listening to music especially Northern Soul, Ska and Reggae and visits with his family who are particularly important to him and visit often. They also enjoy going out in the car and going for walks. In addition, it is important that this gentleman skin integrity is monitored due to continence concerns

This gentleman is also nonverbal, therefore being adaptable to eliminate the communication barrier will be essential in the support being provided. They respond well through body language, facial expressions, and vocal noises.

That means that there is a team of clinicians including nurses, occupational therapists, and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) specialists involved in developing the care and approach for each person that we support. This provides more direction to the Support teams; it is an inclusive approach that is proven to work to improve the lives and outcomes of the people that we support.

Training

We don’t expect you to know everything when you join Gray Healthcare! We provide an initial week of training which is a combination of online training (company induction, systems, meds etc.) followed by in-person training on PROACT-SCIPr-UK which is a PBS approach to least restrictive practice, a therapeutic and proven alternative to restraint-dominant approaches. You will then complete the person-centred training, specific to the person that you are supporting. This could be PBS, epilepsy, ligature etc. and finally, you’ll complete shadow shifts.
