Role Overview

Gray Healthcare is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our Finance Team based at Alderley Park, Alderley. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives on accuracy, compliance and delivering an exceptional service to colleagues across the organisation. Previous experience of using NetSuite Payroll is essential.

The post holder will:

  • Take ownership of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timeliness.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
  • Support financial processes that contribute to safe, effective and well-led services

Core Responsibilities

  • Own the completion of the company’s payroll routines and payroll cycles from entering new starters to final payroll payment.
  • Ensure all aspects of payroll are completed to meet relevant ethical, regulatory compliance and legal standards, having due regard for the policies and processes of the organisation, as well as legislative payroll practices.
  • Calculate statutory payments such as SSP, SPP and SMP and deal with Attachment of Earnings and Pension (Legal & General)
  • Processing of P11D returns, tax code changes, P45, and RTI submissions.
  • Maintain and upload monthly payroll accruals and payroll journals.
  • Reconcile hours worked per time records against contracted hours.
  • Work closely with HR to ensure processing accuracy and data integrity.
  • Answer staff questions about salary, deductions, attendance, time records, as well as dealing with pension queries.
  • Liaison with various external agencies such as HMRC and pension providers.
  • Produce monthly, supplementary reports, and ad-hoc analysis to agreed deadlines, including reconciliation of payroll balance sheet accounts such as Pension Control Account, Net Pay control etc.
  • Provide support to the Finance Manager/Finance Team in the achievement of the team and organisation’s strategic projects.

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist, Payroll Officer or Senior Payroll Administrator.
  • Strong experience using NetSuite Payroll
  • Payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent).
  • Excellent understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Income Tax, National Insurance, pensions and statutory payments.
  • Experience of RTI submissions and payroll reconciliations.
  • Advanced attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent).
  • Experience working within Health and Social Care.
  • Finance or accounts experience.
