Main Responsibility

Training

We don’t expect you to know everything when you join Gray Healthcare! We provide an initial week of training which is a combination of online training (company induction, systems, meds etc.) followed by in-person training on PROACT-SCIPr-UK which is a PBS approach to least restrictive practice, a therapeutic and proven alternative to restraint-dominant approaches. You will then complete the person-centred training, specific to the person that you are supporting. This could be PBS, epilepsy, ligature etc. and finally, you’ll complete shadow shifts.

Training continues throughout your time with Gray Healthcare and we encourage you to develop and grow your career with us.

Hours

We are looking for people to work the following shift patterns with flexibility.

  • Bank – Flexible for days or nights to cover when needed.

Recruitment Process

  1. Telephone pre-screen with specialist recruiter to go through the role in more detail and find out more about you and why you have applied.
  2. In-person interview with Community Support Manager
  3. Compliance & Background checks including employment references, Right To Work checks and Enhanced DBS.

The Ideal Candidate

About you

We are looking for a support worker who are commutable distance to Shrewsbury, essentially an individual who is calm and patient.  It essential that you are a skilled communicator who can interpret this gentleman’s nonverbal communication.

  • We are also interested in manual drivers who can drive the mobility car.
  • We are looking for people who have worked in social care previously, ideally with autism experience.
  • You must have current Right to Work in the UK and have 6 Months Experience working in the Health Sector in the UK.

Package Description

We are looking for Bank Support Workers from Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas to support a young gentleman on a 2:1 basis. He has a diagnosis who has a severe learning disability, autism, and epilepsy. 

The person supported enjoys listening to music especially Northern Soul, Ska and Reggae and visits with his family who are particularly important to him and visit often. They also enjoy going out in the car and going for walks, it is beneficial that individuals have a focused mindset on prompting this gentleman in developing new skills to gain more independence. 

This gentleman is also nonverbal, therefore being adaptable to eliminate the communication barrier will be essential in the support being provided. They respond well through body language, facial expressions, and vocal noises. 

Drivers preferred but not essential

Gray Healthcare are different to most care providers in that that we are clinically informed. That means that there is a team of clinicians including nurses, occupational therapists and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) specialists involved in developing the care and approach for each person that we support. This provides more direction to the Support teams; it is an inclusive approach that is proven to work to improve the lives and outcomes of the people that we support.
