Autism Support Worker

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced support worker who lives within the Worcester area with a Complex needs background. The person we support needs someone who can proactively engage with them and have understanding about Autism and Epilepsy.

It is important that you have a focused mindset with a good understanding in their sensory need’s will be beneficial as it will allow development in gaining more independences.

The individual we support lives in his own home, he enjoys listening to music, watching YouTube Videos, cartoons, and nature programs along with visits with his family who are particularly important to him and visit often. This individual appears very tactile and enjoys watching the staff cook. 

This gentleman is also nonverbal, therefore being adaptable to eliminate the communication barrier will be essential in the support being provided.

You must have experience of:

  • Providing encouragement to a person with complex health needs and Learning Disabilities. 
  • Behaviours that may be perceived as concerning within the UK
  • Implementing detailed care plans and risk assessments.

Gray Healthcare are different to most care providers in that that we are clinically informed. This means that there is a team of clinicians including nurses, occupational therapists, and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) specialists involved in developing the care and approach for each person that we support.

This provides more direction to the support teams: It is an inclusive approach that is proven to work to improve the lives and outcomes of the people that we support. 

Hours:

We are looking for people to work the following shift patterns:

Two shifts between Monday and Sunday 08:00am-20:00pm x 24 hours a week

Training:

We do not expect you to know everything when you join Gray Healthcare!

We provide an initial week of training which is a combination of online training: Company, Induction, Systems and Medication. 

Followed by in-person training on PROACT-SCIPr-UK which is a PBS approach to least restrictive practice, this is a therapeutic and proven alternative to restraint dominant approaches. You will then complete the person-centred training, specific to the person that you are supporting. This could be PBS, epilepsy, ligature etc. and finally, you will complete shadow shifts.

About You:

We are looking for a support worker who live within the Worcester area, an individual who is calm, patient, and skilled in non-verbal communication. It is desirable to have experience supporting in therapeutic and sensory activities.

Recruitment Process

  • Telephone Pre-Screen Interview with a specialist Recruiter: 
  • To discuss the position in more detail and to find out more about you along with your experience.
  • Face to Face interview with the Community Support Manager
  • Compliance & Background checks including employment references, Right to Work checks and Enhanced DBS.
  • An enhanced DBS is required. If you are not on the Update Service, we will reimburse the cost of a new DBS after 1 month probation review.
