Autism Support Worker- Driver

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced a Support Worker who lives local to Shrewsbury in the North Shropshire area to support a young gentleman who is highly active and energetic. 
 The person we support has fantastic sense of humour and they thrive by having the right type of individuals supporting them in a person-centred approach. 

It is important to provide inclusion when supporting this individual, to ensure they are included in activities and decisions. To have a Support Worker who have a focus mindset, is motivated, and has good understanding about sensory needs would be beneficial.

The person supported enjoys listening to music especially Northern Soul, Ska and Reggae and visits with his family who are particularly important to him and visit often. They also enjoy going out in the car, on walks and swimming,

This gentleman has their own way of communicating, and will be playful over it, therefore being adaptable to eliminate the communication barrier will be essential in the support being provided. They respond well through body language, facial expressions, and vocal noises. 

Gray Healthcare are different to most care providers in that that we are clinically informed. That means that there is a team of clinicians including nurses, occupational therapists, and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) specialists involved in developing the care and approach for each person that we support. This provides more direction to the Support teams; it is an inclusive approach that is proven to work to improve the lives and outcomes of the people that we support.

Hours:

shifts are 12 hours: 0800- 20:00 Days or Waking Nights 20:00- 08:00

36 hour contract availables

Training:

We do not expect you to know everything when you join Gray Healthcare! 

We provide an initial week of training which is a combination of online training (company induction, systems, meds etc.) followed by in-person training on PROACT-SCIPr-UK which is a PBS approach to least restrictive practice, a therapeutic and proven alternative to restraint-dominant approaches. You will then complete the person-centred and epilepsy training specific to the person that you are supporting and then you will complete shadow shifts.

About You:

Driver Required (Full British Driving License)

We are looking for a support worker who is happy to drive to the Shrewsbury area and has careful driving knowledge around the local area due to locations that they enjoy visiting.

This individual must be calm, patient, and skilled in non-verbal communication along with well-spoken English. We are looking for people who have worked in social care previously, ideally with autism experience. Therefore, being positive, the empathetic qualities and having a good sense of humour would be a strong match for this gentleman.

You must have current Right to Work in the UK and have 6 Months Experience working in the Health Sector in the UK.

    • Teams Interview with a specialist Recruiter:
    • This is to go through the position in more detail and to find out more about you and your experience. 
    • Assessment Day with key team members including clinical and current support staff. This is a valuable opportunity to really find out more about the role and Gray Healthcare.
    • Compliance & Background checks including employment references, Right to Work checks and Enhanced DBS.
    • An enhanced DBS is required. If you are not on the Update Service, we will reimburse the cost of a new DBS after 1 month probation review.
