Autism Support Worker (36 Hours Wake Nights)

Job Introduction

Night Owls Required!

We are seeking an experienced support worker who is patient and adaptable, to provide support to the changing needs and preferences to a young man on a 2:1 basis on waking nights. They have a diagnosis of Autism, Learning Disabilities and Epilepsy. 

Waking Night shift involves monitoring their safety and welfare throughout the night. Most nights they are often in bed asleep when you arrive, and they will sleep straight through. Due to their sensory needs keeping a peaceful environment is vital. In addition to this all staff must ensure that all infection control policies and procedures are followed by maintaining cleaning duties.

You must have experience of:

  • Providing encouragement to a person with complex health needs and Learning Disabilities. 
  • Behaviours that may be perceived as concerning within the UK
  •  As well as experience in implementing detailed care plans and risk assessments.

Gray Healthcare are different to most care providers in that that we are clinically informed this means that there is a team of clinicians including nurses, occupational therapists, and Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) specialists involved in developing the care and approach for each person that we support.

This provides more direction to the support teams; it is an inclusive approach that is proven to work to improve the lives and outcomes of the people that we support. 

Training

We do not expect you to know everything when you join Gray Healthcare!

We provide an initial week of training which is a combination of online training (company induction, systems, and meds.) Followed by in-person training on PROACT-SCIPr-UK which is a PBS approach to least restrictive practice, this is a therapeutic and proven alternative to restraint dominate approachesYou will then complete the person-centred training, specific to the person that you are supporting. This could be PBS, epilepsy, ligature etc. and finally, you will complete shadow shifts.

Hours

Contract: 36 Hours a week 3x 12 Shifts 

Shift times are 20:00pm – 08:00am

About you

Ideally you will be an enthusiastic person who lives an accessible distance to Worcester and is familiar to working night shifts. Preferably with experience with therapeutic and sensory activities to meet in line with the person-centred care plan. In the last few months’ Makaton has been encouraged with the PWS, it is reflected in a positive manner.

•We are looking for people who have worked in social care previously, ideally with autism experience.

•You must have current Right to Work in the UK and have 6 Months Experience working in the Health Sector in the UK.

Recruitment Process

  1. Telephone interview with specialist recruiter to go through the role in more detail and find out more about you and why you have applied.
  2. TEAMS interview with Community Support Manager
  3. Compliance & Background checks including employment references, Right to Work checks and Enhanced DBS.
  4. An enhanced DBS is required. If you are not on the Update Service, we will reimburse the cost of a new DBS after 1 month probation review.
